Friendly Blog Review:

Friendly Blog Review:

Frequency of Posts: I think Caas has posted on each subject to be posted about.

Voice: I think that the groups voice comes out at times. I found that their voice showed in the blog post about IFLScience, where the group commented on their response and feeling of that blog. I also felt more of a voice in the chapter 7 reading response by Amanda.

Passion / Expertise: I'm not sure how much passion is required for a high score of an english class's blog review. In the in class thingie it seemed like the reading wasn't totally understood or some basic points of the reading were missed. I noticed that in the Jim Morrison example, where what was written about it was misalligned from the reading, I also saw this in the answer to 5 and others in this post.

Good Writing: Yeah, there were some grammar errors, but hey that happens.

Aesthetically pleasing: I enjoyed all of the images, so I guess so.

User friendly: I don't know how user-friendliness relates to a prestructured blog format(?)

Original: I don't really know how to rate this either.

Relevance: All of the responses were relevant and spoke to the topic at hand.

Mikes In class review thingie of other groups blogs 9/23/14

I chose to review bloggin4ENG121. there focus is really on point and very clear to me(the reader). It makes it pretty obvious what the blog is about. as far as organization is concerned its also perfect, for me at least i can scroll down and see all the blogs in great order without anything distracting me or pulling my attention away from the blog not just a cool image. I like the design because its very simple and very clean its not overly flashy or done up too much. the post relevance is AMAZING! there are so many great blog reviews and i actually read them all (almost never happens!) Over all i think this blog is the Bees Knees it has no errors that i could see and was very easy to read and kept my attention the whole time. Keep kicking some blogger ass!

In Class Thingie:

Lifosuction Essay Answers

What's his thesis?:
People try to make the image of themselves seem more impressive
People embellish and fabricate their public image

Count the examples:
12 examples! Whoa!

Thomas Menino
Joseph Ellis
Paul Parks
The Mayan peasant
Sandra Bullock
Jim Morrison
Bill O'reilly
Mike Barnicle
Vanilla Ice
Harlod Wilson
Tony Blair
 Marcos - Zapatista

Questions on page 253:

1.) According to Murphy people engage in lifosuction in order to appear impressive, relatable, virtuous or humble. People "lifosuck" in an attempt to taylor their image.

2.) I think what Murphy means is that it is difficult to immediately identify whether what one claims to be true is always the truth. I think that Murphy does not think that lifosuction is terribly serious, which I get a sense of from his final sentence.

3.) I think most of the examples do not show the removal of harmless elements, however I think it is important to ask harmful to what? Most of the examples Murphy lists are public figures who's claims relate to their work with everyone, for example, a politician might state something like "I can relate to the middle class." To me when a public figure like a politician lies it is more worrying that the they were in actuality concerned about their image rather than the truth because what they do concerns the wellfare of people and requires honest communication. However Murphy also did provide the example of Sandra Bullock, which I kind of thought was funny, because it wasn't that important.

4.) Many of the examples of Murphy's examples involve the removal of privlege bvecause most people aren't privileged. Therefore more people can relate to them and might vote for them.

5.) Menino's comment to the reporter is ironic because the reporter was commenting on the truth and Menino was saying that the reporter was just trying to make untrue accusations.

1.) The thesis is that people embellish and fabricate their public image

2.) The tone is light, open-minded and consistent.

3.) I don't see major or any particular contrast between the examples Murphy uses in paragraph three and in the rest of the essay.

4.) In paragraph 5 Murphy introduces an example with a topic sentence. I think that the topic sentence is helpful because he presents one of the ways people often engage in lifosuction.

5.) I think that Murphy's examples are progressive because of the difference in severity of lying or lifosuction between Menino and Harlod Wilson who attempted to alter his lifestyle to be in order with what he had professed.

1.) It is made up because it is a coined word(?). I find the term slightly confusing, I wonder how the essay would have changed if he used lying instead.

2.)
tribune: a paper, a magazine.
dint:an impression
cadre: a small group of people trained for a specific profession
pugilist: a boxer
proletariat: a working class person

My thesis / argument for my exemplification essay: Religions are very interesting

/In-Class thingie response questions 9/18/14 - Mike Carey

His f.p. is that everyone embellishes about them selves in one way or another to make a certain appearance or persona for themselves that they want the public to see and know. I mean come on what sounds cooler Vanilla ICE or Robert Van Winkle? (not really a win win either way)

i counted at least 3 different examples including RVW (the guy above), Jim Morrison from the door, and a few politicians but i don't recall there names as i don't really pay attention to politics more music.( if you couldn't tell)

1. everyone likes lifosucktion because who dosent have somethings in there past that they want to leave out or forget.
2. He thinks its very serious because very important people even presidents have lied about there history or where they come from to gain the approval of people. these lies can really hurt people in the long run and most of the time the truth comes out and the backlash is worse than the general reaction would be if they were just honest and up front about it in the first place.
3. He is trying to make a point i get it its wrong to lie about yourself but in my opinion he needs to calm down, and possibly stop being a Hippo-crate(sweet spell check fix) . i highly doubt he hasn't told a slightly off version of the truth about himself his whole life, maybe even on his resume to get this job?
4. every one loves an under dog! when was the last time you rooted for the cobra kai gym in the karate kid? SWEEP THE LEG,,,, psshsst swan to the face! CROWD GOES WILD!
5. its ironic because the only "dirt" they found on him was he had a college degree, god forbid its not from an ivy league school! was i think his freaking point.

1.  everyone lies about themselves in one way or another to look good.
2. yes he is very serious and stern the whole time saying its always a bad thing.
3. he talks about padding his resume so he is admitting he has done it too but its still bad!
4. 4 "everyone agrees that this cosmetic makeover is wrong" hes getting the general population ready to get on board with him. its bad!
5. he dose not go with one type of person or lie, he brings out that everyone will lie about good and bad things. he goes from the doors to politicians showing examples of each not wanting to know the true back rounds of one another. Plus no want

1. i like puns so yes i like the word and it covers it all very clearly, lifeosuction, YES, i want to cut out parts of my life and make it look better!
2.  ahh yes very intriguing!

Alex Z: Chapter 7 Response:

Alex Zagami
9/17/14
Ch. 7
Jenn Zukowski

On Exemplification

Personal reaction:
I thought that it all made sense. What I thought at some point a long reading was that I think we very commonly use skills such as exemplification, and yet at the same time we’re not so conscious of the components of the skill. It’s like laughing at a joke and then having someone ask you “why was that funny?” and you don’t know, but you know that it was funny. Meaning we are aware of the raw skills such as exemplification, but not as aware of the make up of the skills.

Professional reaction:

Exemplification: Using a specific example or instance to clarify a point, add interest or persuade.

Supporting details: sources can include personal experience, observation, general knowledge, class lectures, reading research and so forth.

Hypothetical examples must be realistic to be representational. They must be similar enough to other examples.

Organization: Uses of exemplification
  • progressive order - least to most compelling
  • chronological order
  • spatial order

Byline: Best byline evrrRR

Reading Images

 Reading Images

The smoke is portrayed as a bag over the child, it looks like a real bag. The smoke looks like it is being drawn into his nose and mouth. The image is very realistic, you can clearly see the child's facial expression. The image is intense. The image draws out worry, concern and fear because of how realistic it looks.

Line: the smoke draws you to the child's facial expression.
Color: not too much emphasis on color.
Texture: the smoke looks real.
Shape: vivid facial expression.
Light/shadow: the image looks like there is a spot light on the kid's face. The background is all black.
Design/layout: very upfront, in your face., centered.
Style: serious tone, creates a sense of urgency.
Medium: photography and photoshop.

Logical Fallicies: Overgeneralizing

Overgeneralizing is not considering all of the aspects that go into an issue. What happens when someone does this is a diminishing of the significance of all of the pieces that go into something. When a person overgeneralizes they are not seeing how all of the things that make up the issue interact and make the issue in the first place.

How to avoid overgeneralizing: An example of overgeneralization is "there would be no car accidents if everyone obeyed all of the traffic laws." What makes this overgeneralizing is that they think that the lack of obeying traffic laws is based on not wanting to or could simply be fixed if people made the decision to follow them. What relates to the issue of not following traffic laws, which might lead to an accident, are things like sleep deprivation or talking on the phone while driving. Therefore there are more reasons why traffic accidents occur other than people not choosing to follow traffic laws.

How is this stopping war?

Review of vedantasatsangh blog.. yea its hard to say. (Mike Carey)

This is a very interesting and deep blog. It has some very deep insight on some interesting topics like karma and the personal question of who am I? Its a little dry at times with some big vocab from time to time but its not overly bombastic or trying to sound super smart. Its more of a serious tone throughout the whole blog on most topics. kind of wish it was a bit more lighthearted  I understand the topics are deep and thought provoking but come on man you gotta laugh some times or at least get a little chuckle when you read.

OVERALL RATE MY FREAKING THOUGHTS ARE:
Interesting - 6 to 7 depending on topic
Language - 6
Serious - 10
Humorous - -1 its not funny AT ALL
Popularity - 3(not talked about a lot but find someone who is deep into it and BOOM HUGE CONVERSATION!)
Visuals - 2 not a whole lot going on visually more text based
Writing style - 3 its readable and interesting but a little dry at times. I prefer funny or lighthearted approaches to serious life topics.

 Alex Zagami Review:

Interest:
I have not followed the blog too extensively or deeply, but I'm thinking I should at least begin to make a habit of at least reading this blog for a couple minutes a day. What I have found, so far, is very interesting.
Language:
I find the language can be difficult to digest at certain times. It depends what the context of the blog is, which may be commentary, a poem, or a story.
Serious:
I would not say that the blog is too serious in tone and in the sense that it is attempting to be persuasive.
Humorous:
I don't find it particularly humorous.
Popularity:
The blog isn't very popular.
Visuals:
There aren't many visuals, usually one that relates to the topic being discussed.

I'm not really sure how to rate it.
